May has come to a close and I am now introducing a new monthly feature for you soap fans out there. Each month we will count down the 5 most talked about people in the industry. With a combination of press, media, blog, and fan chatter this shall determine who makes our list. So let’s begin.
5. Helen Wagner
The passing of the great Helen Wagner (ex-Nancy Hughes, As The World Turns) hit soap fans like a ton of bricks. She was the longest running actress on the CBS Sudser and had spoken the first line of the show when it aired and was scheduled to speak the last line of the show when it ended. Sadly that will not happen. RIP Helen Wagner we will miss you.
4. Ron Carlivati
From the big house to the dog house Ron Carlivati Head Writer on One Life To Live and the most critically acclaimed scribe in 2009 started the year off fresh until word came along that KISH and Daphne Samuel among others were being given the pink slip. From there writing for the series has gone downhill and May was just anther sign that things just ain’t the same.
3. Eden Reigal
After bursting on the scene as the Heather recast on The Young and The Restless Eden Reigal has been met with mixed reviews. Many bloggers, press, and industry insiders are praising the casting of the former All My Children star best known as Bianca. Yet her reception has been met with stiff fan resistance and many bloggers are trying to wrap their heads around what the brass at Y&R plan to do with the character. Only time will tell if things will change.
2. Drew Garrett
The most talked about recast has got to be Drew Garrett’s ceremonious axing and replaced with Chad Duell. There were rumors about from the actor having tardiness issues, to a lack of acting skills as opinioned by the onset acting coach, to the suggestion that he was not “sexy” enough to take the character of Michael in the direction the brass at GH and ABC wanted to. No matter what the real reason is fans are not buying it and want their now Emmy nominated Drew back. No offense Chad, but the "I’s" have spoken.
1. Victoria Rowell
One of daytime’s best media mavens and one of the mostout spoken daytime actress Victoria Rowell (ex-Drucilla, Y&R) as made the rounds to discuss her daytime career and rep for her now released book Secrets Of A Soap Opera Diva. She has been on the Wendy Williams Show and The Monique Show. She was featured in Essence Magazine as their book cub selection of the month. She has done countless interviews with the soap press from print magazines, to blogs, and podcast interviews. And that is just the short version. With all that she still reps for the soap industry and for the fans of the genre any chance she gets and continues to push the cause for diversity in front of the screen and behind the scenes whether she is on a soap or not. Here’s looking at you kid!
