Black History Month: Top 5 African American Villains. Watch Out!

In our final black history month piece we count down the top 5 African American male villains.  These are the bad brotha's that have come into the lives of our favorite soap characters and used their power of persuasion through blackmail, threats of violence, and the usual terrorization to get what they want.  In some cases they payed on the emotions of those closest to them.  Never the less these 5 men were bad to the bone.   

 


5. Garrett Williams, All My Children

  • Various mob-related crimes
  • Possible pedophile; had a sexual relationship with an underage Di Kirby.
  • Ordered a hit on Noah Keefer, which resulted in Noah's death.
  • Ordered a hit on Julia Keefer.
  • Ordered a hit on Kevin Sturgess, which resulted in Kevin's death.

4. Marshall Travers, As The World Turns


  • Withheld the whereabouts of fugitive, James Stenbeck
  • Prosecuted Paul Ryan for murder under false pretenses
  • Arrested for the sexual assault of Jessica Griffin; (Charges dropped)

3. RJ Gannon, One Life To Live

  • Hijacking trucks and selling their cargo
  • Kidnapping (Max's twins)
  • Blackmail (Sheila and Hank with a doctored VCR tape)
  • Loanshark
  • Aggravated assault and armed robbery (served 9 years in jail)
  • Helped Lindsay Rappaport escape from prison
  • Tried to frame Antonio Vega for his daughter's accident
  • Hid Keri's suicide note to frame Antonio for her "murder"

2. Les Baxter, All My Children

  • Disapproving of Angie's relationship with Jesse, Les (Angie's father) drives and emotional wedge between the young lovers.
  • Seeks to have Jesse prosecuted when Jesse is fasley accused of rape. 
  • Moonlighting as a layer Les is scretly Crime lord, known as "Mr. Big".
  • Les runs a blackmarket baby ring.
  • Les hold Yvonne hostage.

1. Vincent Clarkson, Passions

  • Worked as a spy for Theresa
  • Tried to kill Whitney
  • Raped Fancy
  • Blackmailed most of town
  • Seduced Chad to destroy his marriage
  • Serial killer
  • Killed bartender at the Blue Note
  • Kills Simone's lover.
  • Sets up Luis to take the fall for his crimes
  • Returns from the dead and terrorizes his mother Eve
  • Hermaphrodite who sleeps with his father Julian and gets pregnate
  • Sleeps with a drugged up Julian and becomes pregnate

Vincent was the WORST black villain! He was a walking, wretched stereotype of the tragic mulatto and psycho gay man all rolled into one.

Yes Vincent was the best. I could not wait to tune in day after day to see him he was a hoot! Vincent was no different than any other soap villain who went too far and in fact Passions had many of them. So you are way wrong unless you are going to say that Alistair Crane was some sort of stereotype. And then you are way off because Passions never tried to nothing than what it was.

Vincent was no worse than Alistair Crane or Mitch Lawrence, Todd Manning, Roger Thorpe etc...He just happen to be the first African American of his kind and most fans agree with that. There was nothing too special about his character that differed from any other super soap villain.
